Kenneth C. Davis will explore slavery’s central place in U.S. History. He will identify several central truths that he believes are core to understanding the role slavery played in shaping America from its founding as well as its continuing impact on politics, society, and racial divisions in the United States. Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of Social Studies. Any accredited public high school or non-secondary school can apply for a local chapter, through which individuals will be inducted into Rho Kappa Honor Society. Rho Kappa provides national recognition and opportunities for exploration in the social studies. Silver Spring, Md. – The National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) has signed onto a letter, organized by the Association of American Educators Foundation, sent to Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and leaders in Congress calling for their help in addressing the lack of teacher diversity in our nation’s classrooms. On Wednesday, July 24, 2019, the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB) issued a press release on its updated schedule for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). The updated schedule includes changes to the NAEP Civics and U.S. History assessment frameworks and administration, and the elimination of the NAEP Economics and Geography assessments. Tim Daly is Director of Operataions. Tim studied international relations and economics at the College of William and Mary. With an academic background in social studies related subjects, having been steeped in the history of Williamsburg, and growing up in the Washington, DC area, Tim was naturally drawn to work with social studies, and has been with NCSS in a variety of positions since 1991.
