2023 NCSS Election Results: Dr. Tina Ellsworth Elected Vice-President

Tina M. Ellsworth, Ph.D., has been elected to the position of 2023-2024 Vice-President for the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS). Dr. Ellsworth is currently an assistant professor at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. She will serve as NCSS President in 2025-2026. 

Dr. Ellsworth has held numerous leadership roles within the wider NCSS community. Her leadership experiences include past president of the Missouri Council for the Social Studies, co-founder of the Kansas University Council for the Social Studies, co-chair of the NCSS Membership Committee, co-lead of the College and University Faculty Assembly’s Teacher Education Research Collective, and member of the Fund for the Advancement of Social Studies Education (FASSE) Restructure Task Force.

Currently, Dr. Ellsworth serves as a member of the NCSS Board of Directors and the Board's Executive Committee. She is also a writer and facilitator for NCSS' Teaching with Primary Sources online methods text and professional learning programs, funded through a grant from the Library of Congress.
 
Dr. Ellsworth earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Social Studies Education from the University of Kansas, a M.A. in History from the University of Central Missouri, and a B.S. in Social Studies Education from Central Missouri State University.

Board and Officer terms will begin on July 1, 2023. Also in July 2023, NCSS President-Elect Wesley Hedgepeth, Politics and History Teacher at Collegiate School in Henrico County, VA, will assume the office of President; NCSS Vice-President Jennifer Morgan, a middle school social studies teacher at West Salem Middle School in West Salem, WI, will assume the office of NCSS President-Elect.

NCSS will open nominations later in February 2023 for candidates to serve as officers and board members for the next election scheduled to begin in December 2023. More information on the nominations process for the Board of Directors will be posted soon at www.socialstudies.org
