Membership Engagement Manager- Join the NCSS Team

NCSS is seeking an membership engagement manager to join our team. This position manages and strengthens relationships with all NCSS members, four core membership groups (Associated Groups, Operations Committees, Special Interest Communities, and Affiliated Councils), and the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society. The primary responsibilities support member recruitment, engagement, and retention; manage volunteer leadership appointments and support; and promote ongoing communications between membership groups, NCSS members, and the public.  This position is familiar with the association’s governance structure, policies, and procedures, and assists with the annual House of Delegates meeting. This position also provides information and assistance to other NCSS departments, works closely with the Digital Marketing Manager, and handles additional duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Membership Groups

  • Manage membership group services (e.g., forms, reports, and other materials) necessary to facilitate active membership recruitment, engagement, and retention.
  • Engage and support membership groups in sharing their activities through NCSS publications, social media, and online discussion groups to promote best practices that increase recognition of the social studies, and to strengthen linkages between NCSS and the public.
  • Assist with the planning of the House of Delegates member representative assembly as the organization’s annual business meeting, in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Participate in preparing and monitoring membership group activities and meetings at the NCSS Annual Conference, through monthly online training programs including Leadership Forums, and for other NCSS events as assigned.
  • Represent NCSS at selected governance meetings, and report on those meetings to the department director as assigned.

Communications

  • Send and receive membership communications with all members, core membership groups, Rho Kappa chapters, and other internal and external stakeholders as assigned.
  • Develop communication audiences and delivery timelines to increase NCSS awareness and engagement.
  • Update NCSS communication lists and press lists.
  • Create membership marketing materials to encourage recruitment, engagement, and retention.

Rho Kappa National Honor Society

  • Manage the Rho Kappa/Jr. Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society program: data collection and reporting, chapter onboarding, chapter renewals, and chapter advisor coordination.
  • Facilitate online meetings of the Rho Kappa Advisory Council.
  • Engage and support Rho Kappa chapters and advisors in sharing their activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, Non-Profit Management, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years’ experience in membership management, program administrative and association/chapter relations management is a plus.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently and efficiently under deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of website management/editing; knowledge of online presentation programs is desired
  • Knowledge of automated office systems, general office policies and procedures, and filing systems.
